In the current administration, OSHA has significantly overhauled its penalty system, eliminating some standard reductions and has set minimum penalties for specific violations. OSHA has also launched the SVEP program (Severe Violators Enforcement Program,) which has corporate-wide implications for companies in general industry and construction. There are also several Emphasis Programs with the potential to affect electrical contractors. To gain a better understanding of these new programs, NECA will host an educational webinar on Tuesday, Jan. 24,at 1:30PM EST.

As previously announced, the 2012 NECA Labor Relations Conference will be held at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana, March 7 and 8. The conference is scheduled to last two full days. In addition, there will be a half-day pre-conference workshop on “Inspiring Trust” the afternoon of March 6.

necanet.org: Senate Passes Repeal of 3% Withholding Tax
President Obama Expected to Sign Legislation Into Law
This afternoon, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed H.R. 674, legislation that would repeal the 3% withholding tax that was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on October 27. The legislation would repeal the law passed in 2005 requiring all governmental entities to withhold three percent of contractor payments as a prepayment of taxes. With amendments offered in the Senate, the bill is expected to go back to the House of Representatives for consideration. NECA anticipates that the House will vote in support of the legislation.
